Oddly enough, our story
begins with our current
enemy: plastic
we make clothes
that don’t swish
and swash
Founded in Sweden in 1982, Mover made its mark by pioneering Gore-Tex® in ski apparel, setting a standard for technical excellence. In 2004, Swiss entrepreneur Nicolas Rochat acquired the brand and relocated it to Switzerland, steering it towards a new ethos rooted in the comfort and performance of natural fibers.
Mover began phasing out synthetic fibers and embracing merino wool for its superior performance and comfort. In 2010, in collaboration with Baur Vliesstoffe, Mover introduced swisswool®, a revolutionary insulation material crafted entirely from wool. The pivotal decision came in 2017 when Mover parted ways with Gore-Tex® in favor of weather-resistant Ventile® fabrics, woven from high-density cotton.
Initially just in greater search of breathability and comfort, we also became increasigly aware of the plastic problem through our friend and navigator Steve Ravussin and it was clear: plastic had overstayed its welcome. In fact, 99% of Sportswear is made of synthetics, shedding microplastics and leaking toxic chemicals that are present in our human body and our environment. This shift from synthetic to natural materials wasn't just about functionality—it was now a stance against plastic's prevalence in sports as well. There is no reason why clothes should be made of synthetics.
Mover Plastic Free Sportswear was born, starting with the launch of our first outdoor collection in October 2021.
We blend technical expertise with a reverence for nature, creating garments that harmonize with both the wearer and the environment. Our journey is one of continuous innovation and uncompromising commitment to eliminating synthetics from sportswear, proving that sustainable choices can lead the way to a cleaner, quieter and more active future outdoors.
Today, Mover is a privately owned, independent company, based in Lausanne Switzerland. We specialize in making plastic free thermal regulatory and protective sport garments.
